Like Kim says above, I also have noticed a real slowdown in overall performance with Nortons.
Is there anything I can do to speed things up?

I have noticed a slowdown in my system with Norton, 2 GB of RAM and Windows 7. I think I may need more system resources to run everything smoothly.

this will absolutely be very useful especially to those that store files in there computer-useful and important files, to protect it from any losses. How can we make this possible?

Is Norton still the leader in this field? Which ones should we use now in 2011?

I would also like to know what Dexx has asked. How does Norton fare with windows 7? I'm facing a lot of problem with these new versions of windows OS and its becoming difficult to find tools and applications that work correctly with it.

One problem I have with Norton is how bloated the software seems to be when installed within Windows 7...anyone else notice this or is it just me?

I have used symantec norton products for the past 3 years and I think I have got 2 infections so it is really hard to say if this software is the best like you said.

If anything, I think it has blocked some variants of viruses over the years instead of actual spyware.

@schoolgal: great solution, but the UTM.Cyberoam firewall is in a higher class of approaches than the subject of our post.

For any enterprise environment, working with such solutions is a must. Thanks for the great resource!

Here is a link to the UTM.Cyberoam firewall solution for anyone interested:

If you need an all in one solution then I would look at something like unified threat managment also known as a UTM.Cyberoam firewall is the only UTM firewall that embeds user identity in firewall rule matching criteria, enabling enterprises to configure policies and identify users directly by the username rather than through IP addresses. Cyberoam’s powerful hardware firewall provides stateful and deep packet inspection, access control, user authentication, network and application-level protection.

The ICSA-certified Cyberoam firewall is available along with VPN, gateway anti-virus and anti-spyware, gateway anti-spam, intrusion prevention system, content filtering, bandwidth management and multiple link management, providing comprehensive security to small, medium and large enterprises, including remote and branch offices. Cyberoam is a Check Mark Level 5 certified UTM solution.

Key Features

1.Stateful Inspection Firewall
2.Centralized management for multiple security features
3.Embeds user identity in rule-matching criteria
4.Multiple zone security
5.Granular IM, P2P controls
6.ICSA certified
